I m not much of a cook and I haven t tried the recipes in this book YET but I quite liked this book because it was looking at the Mediterranean and Asian diets from a nutritional standpoint as well as what the two diets have in common If you ve read books like The Blue Zones Lessons for Living Longer From the People Who ve Lived the Longest or The Jungle Effect A Doctor Discovers the Healthiest Diets from Around the World Why They Work and How to Bring Them Home you may have noticed that the traditional Mediterranean Greece Italy and Asian really Okinawa, Japan diets both show up and have been recommended by various nutriounists for years Both those books also have Latin American countries as well, Costa Rica and Mexico respectively, supporting the theory that, as Michael Pollan says in Food Rules An Eater s Manual Any traditional diet will do But when borrowing from a food culture, pay attention to how a culture eats as well as to what it eats This book also follows that mindset it includes a food pyramid for both the traditional Mediterranean and Asian diets and both pyramids include alcohol IN MODERATION and daily physical activity Indeed, note how the book is not called The MediterrAsian DIET but is rather called The MediterrAsian WAY it s about than just the food itself A good book for someone looking to change their way of eating as part of an overall healthy lifestyle.

While cookbooks to me dont really classify as actually reading, I marked this book since this is so much than a cookbook Dont get me wrong This book totally passes for a cookbookthere are a LOT of recipes, clearly divided in specific categories, with easily obtainable ingredients and reasonable subsititues The first part of the book however, has about 100 pages of text, detailing the authors lives, and the the main author s Ric s struggles in life I found it to be very inspirational and touching without being maudlin The book lists simple ways to relax, to get the most out of your food and out of life on the while Interspersed are little inspirational stories of real experiences, many from the author s family Plus there is some amount of information based on studies conducted by reputable Hospitals I was a fan of Mediterranian and Asian food before, which was the reason I actually bought the book I cant say I learned a whole lot from this book, but I mean, how many health facts are we NOT aware of nowadays This book puts everything clearly and concisely, is flexible and optimistic and encouraging As for the cookbook part, I have a habit of using the Post it flags to mark off the recipes I want to try Lets just say that I finished an entire post it flag container and had to move to another one lol The first recipe I tried didnt come out all that visually great because I used canned asparagus instead of fresh so it ended up being mushy, but it tasted wonderful And recipes I have tried since then have also proven to be fabulous meals There is also a 2 week menu plan that maps out the meals based in the cookbook as well as suggested calming activities and general ways of living incorporated in the plan.I can definitely see this book being a staple in my kitchen, and it is rapidly becoming so already The I read it, the I fall in love with it.

This is my favorite cookbook EVER It is so water and soy sauce olive oil tomato stained, it s just insane Very healthy and EASY recipes My favorites are the Vietnamese Steamed Fish except I use cilantro instead of mint, and I add bean sprouts and water chestnuts to the veggie mixture , Moroccan Stew, Gado Gado and South Indian Shrimp Curry I really would love it if this couple released a follow up cookbook
