Clear story about bullying, respect and surviving school.

  3. Mariah says:

This comedy of errors is nicely enhanced by Yaccarino s illustrations Alex s imagination is what makes this so cute The scenes in the cafeteria and dojo are great Alex s hobby of collecting baseball cards probably alienatesreaders than connects them, particularly since sports figures like Barry Bonds, quickly become yesterday s news Instead of asking who s that player, kids will probably just tune out a little bit.

  4. Steph says:

I think this is a perfect read aloud for third or fourth graders Messages of baseball love RESPECT people aren t always who they first seem to be andI love that Laurie Myers is the daughter of Betsy Byars, who I ve been reading LOTS of lately And Dan Yaccarino is one of my faves, so clearly I adore the illustrations, too 4.5 stars

  5. Janice says:

I listened to it, but it would be a short, quick read for most kids Boy believes he offends the new really big kid with his impersonation of him The boy then spends most of the book trying to avoid Brick and not be maimed Good lesson for kids.

  6. H says:

A slender school bullying story that makes a decent read aloud for 4th 5th if you don t have a lot of time to finish a book Alex gets caught imitating fellow 5th grader Brick Johnson, who is huge and quiet, and Alex assumes he will be beaten up Can he learn self defense in time

  7. Anija B says:

I think this book was a very good book to read because,Alex and brick were beefing And then the found out they where in the same Karate class and they got to get to know each other But at the end of the story they became good friends and they were at Alex house shorting each other Baseball cards

  8. Nicole says:

Did this one with my 4th grade book group of struggling readers It s perfect for that M.O because the characters are older 5th grade but the writing is relatively simple Easy to decode but lots of inference. Is he a bully or isn t he We ve been trudging through this one for weeks
