First and foremost, I decided to pick this up after watching All About Eve, so I m a little biased This script doesn t hold a candle to that of All About Eve s Although it does have its moments, it lacks the scintillating charisma with which Mankiewicz penned his perennial masterpiece, but I still enjoyed reading it nonetheless.

  2. Jonathan says:

Not nearly the level of crackling magic that All About Eve has, which is strange because Orr adapted her story into this play AFTER the movie had been out for four years Stubbornly not giving into the clearly superior version.3.5 5

I ll give it a three out of five, because it was honest and an important story to tell Not written well, however Mankiewicz really took the story to the next level, with much better developed characters Mankiewicz allows men to be a fly on the wall and peer into the devious, dangerous world of women, which men are utterly unaware of most of the time Eve Harrington is a classic sociopath and social climber, stopping at nothing to get attention and applause Sadly, women or rather, the anti w I ll give it a three out of five, because it was honest and an important story to tell Not written well, however Mankiewicz really took the story to the next level, with much better developed characters Mankiewicz allows men to be a fly on the wall and peer into the devious, dangerous world of women, which men are utterly unaware of most of the time Eve Harrington is a classic sociopath and social climber, stopping at nothing to get attention and applause Sadly, women or rather, the anti woman like this do exist Destined to a life of pain and misery herself, Eve is the woman other women must be taught never to pity or befriend, unless they want to lose their lives and their husbands Great story

A brilliant short story, and movie adapted it well I can t quite remember if the movie ends exactly the same way or not, but it seems to me it was faithful to the essence of the story Both Ann Baxter and Bette Davis were perfect matches for those characters.

  5. Susan says:

Made into the movie, All About Eve, with Bette Davis and George Sanders Excellent short story.

  6. Rachael Madden-Connor says:

This play is based on Mary Orr s 1946 Cosmopolitan magazine short story, The Wisdom of Eve , which was adapted into the 1950 film All About Eve One of my all time favorite movies had always wanted to read the original 1946 story, but couldn t find it Reading this 1964 play, though, which Orr adapted from her story, was very satisfying It is a very quick read and the characters make some very sharp and witty remarks Highly recommend

  7. Mick says:

Intriguing story from the first word to the last Human nature written at his best Made in to a film in 1950 starring Betty Davis.
