A hauntingly beautiful story This book was completely immersive and really transports you back through time It s rare I read wartime stories that actually depict everything how it actually was rather than romanticizing everything Very down to earth book with relatable characters.

Fantastic with one small noteFantastic book It was gripping and suspenseful, painful and emotional, uplifting and allegorical for the times My one note is that the story of the three seamstresses is set up to be revealed to Harriet through some letters I don t want to say any spoilers so I ll just say that it seems unlikely that the person writing the letters would have such in depth knowledge of events that took place without him her I loved the idea behind the letters but it was hard to be Fantastic with one small noteFantastic book It was grippin...

I enjoyed the historical portions of this book, a dangerous ride as three seamstresses in Parisian haute couture become active members of the resistance during the German occupation The atmosphere is tense with fear and privation but the friendships and loyalties come across beautifully.I was less keen on the 21st century young women working in the fashion PR of modern Paris These episodes are interleaved with the ones of two generations ago and the mechanism is one of discovering the past Bu I enjoyed the historical portions of this book, a dangerous ride as three seamstresses in Parisian haute couture become active members of the resistance during the German occupation The atmosphere is tense with fear and privation but the friendships and loyalties come across beautifully.I was less keen on the 21st century young women working in the fashion PR of modern Paris These episodes are interleaved with the ones of two generations ago and the mechanism is one of discovering the past But I couldn t see how this was happening, nor why it took a whole year I didn t warm to Harriet who is very self absorbed and sees the other characters solely in terms of whether she needs them A bit harsh, maybe, but I did get rather frustrated with her lack of appreciation of their friendship and her own goo...
