NHF is a founding member and funder of the European Public Health and Agriculture Consortium (EPHAC) - an alliance of health organisations advocating for a healthier, more sustainable Common Agriculture Policy (CAP). EPHAC does this by providing high level health intelligence to European decision makers, building alliances, advocating common messages and facilitating debate on CAP and its impact on health.

The CAP is an important focus for NHF and other members of EPHAC as food production policy has a fundamental influence on consumption patterns and dietary health.  CAP also affects alcohol and tobacco production in the European Union.

The European Commission is currently reviewing the CAP and recently consulted on proposals, including ‘greening’ the CAP.  For the latest news and policy recommendations visit the EPHAC website

EPHAC is a key supporter of the EU School Fruit Scheme. Established in 2009 with the public health goal of increasing fruit and vegetable consumption, the Scheme provides Euro 90m for the co-financing of school fruit schemes across the EU. Currently operating in 24 Members States, the Scheme provides fruit to 5m children in 32,000 schools every day. Details at EU School Fruit Scheme
